Lyric Arts began providing high-quality theatrical experiences for school groups with School Day Matinee performances of our family-friendly productions in 1999. Since then, we have expanded our offerings to include Tours & Workshops, available both throughout the year and immediately following our School Day Matinee performances, which can be customized to meet your groups' specific needs.

School Day Matinees
Every year, Lyric Arts provides School Day Matinee performances of our season's most family-friendly production. These selections are specifically designed to entertain students while also introducing them to the performing arts and classic storytelling in a professional setting.
School Day Matinees are made available to school groups (including home school and daycare groups) of 10 or more students at the special price of $9 per ticket. Plus, teachers receive one free ticket with every 12 student tickets reserved. Tickets may be paid for in advance or invoiced once a final count is given on the day of the performance. Please note: invoices are not available for home school or daycare groups. Also, as a courtesy to our patrons, children under the age of 5 will not be admitted.
Flora & Ulysses
Feb 19, 20 & 21—10 am & 1 pm
Can a little squirrel change the human heart? After a near-death experience with a vacuum cleaner, a squirrel is rescued by Flora Belle Buckman, a 10-year-old self-proclaimed cynic. She names him Ulysses and soon discovers he has been reborn a superhero, with powers of strength, flight, and the ability to type poetry on Flora’s mother’s typewriter! Together, they embark on an unpredictable adventure, which has the power to awaken the possibility of hope--even for someone as cynical as Flora.
Based on the 2014 Newbery Medal winner by best-selling author Kate DiCamillo, this laugh-out-loud play is bursting with heart and filled with eccentric and endearing characters sure to delight the entire family.

Tours & Workshops
When you bring your students to a School Day Matinee, you can also include a backstage tour and a hands-on theater workshop for your group! Get a full tour of the theater (stage, backstage, makeup & dressing rooms, scene shop and costume shop), then stay for a fun workshop taught by a member of the cast or Lyric Arts staff member. It's a highly interactive, engaging way to introduce all ages to the world of theater!
Fees are $4 per student (teachers and adult chaperone fees are waived) and we can accommodate up to 100 students. The Tour & Workshop begin immediately following the School Day Matinee performance.
We also offer standalone Tours & Workshops independent of School Day Matinee performances. Price subject to workshop and/or tour requirements.
Lyric Arts will design a workshop or series of workshops to meet the needs and interests of your students. We will work with you to customize a program that works with your schedule and learning goals. We will also provide the teaching artist, classroom, and performance space.
